Zack de la Rocha’s father was a famous Chicano artist. When Zack was 13, his father had a nervous breakdown, destroyed most of his art, abandoned his life and identity and became an ascetic. His father never recovered. The experience is a metaphor here for the themes discussed in the lines that follow.
