Genius Annotation

“Fuck Me Pumps,” also known simply as “Pumps,” was the fourth and final single taken from Frank. The song satirically discusses the idea of money-hungry, one-night stand-having women, who could easily get a man if they were to refrain from such promiscuous activities.

During a January 2017 interview with djvlad, producer Salaam Remi revealed he wrote the majority of the song before showing it to Winehouse, adding:

I actually wrote “Fuck Me Pumps” – the majority of it. That was a song that she heard that I had written and she thought it was funny, so she changed some words and actually did it. That’s probably the only song that she just took from somebody and wrote. But she thought it was funny and that was part of our bonding as well – we had a similar sense of humour.

Genius Answer

“Pumps” was really cool. That’s a really good example of what happens when two sarcastic people get into a room together and write a song. I did that with Salaam [Remi] who did over half my album, and yeah, it’s just a good example of two bitchy people in one room. I mean, we’re big bitches. You know, I don’t like to judge people, but sometimes you go out, and you do see those same women every week and they’re looking down at just about everyone and you’re just thinking, “You poor girl.” There’s a load of women like that – I’m not going to name names – but there’s a lot of women like that. […] It’s just funny. Suburbia funniness.
