And it’s a hard, and it’s a hard, it’s a hard, and it’s a hard
And it’s a hard rain’s a-going to fall
This song is an anthem to impending nuclear war. The “hard rain” was not meant to be nuclear fallout, though, but, in terms of a the rain of God’s judgment.
“Mat 5:45….he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.”
In the Bible, there is a paradox, because, rain may represent blessing, such as the phrase “Latter Rain”, which refers to the raining down of the Holy Spirit.
Natural rain is a blessing, as well. God’s reward for faithfulness to the LAW, and good stewardship of the land, is rain, because, rain replenishes their wells, gives their crops a bountiful harvest, and restores the natural balance.
*“Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.
However, rain is also used to punish. YHWH destroyed the world in the great flood, where the “hard”* rain washed away all wickedness.
“ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.”
