Byrne’s use of repetition here is perhaps a demonstration of the principle of the song itself: Every verse is essentially the same in content, this particular section echos the 2nd half of the 2nd verse almost to a tee, and the song is built around one riff that never changes. Perhaps the song was written with this in mind-with the idea that this simple pattern was just the right way to do the song, and any variation would rob it of it’s beautiful simplicity.
