Genius Annotation

“桜流し” (“Sakura Nagashi,” which translates to “flowing cherry blossoms”) is the ending theme for Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, the third film in the Rebuild of Evangelion series, which itself is a remake of the seminal anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. The theme was co-written and sung by J-Pop star Utada Hikaru, who was on a music hiatus at the time but briefly came back because of her love for the Evangelion series.

The song eventually reappeared as the 11th and final track on her 2016 album Fantôme.

Because EMI Japan is very stringent with its copyright claims (so you can’t find the full, original version on YouTube), the listed video for this song is actually co-writer Paul Carter playing the song instrumental on piano.
