Some are carpenter's wives
An allusion perhaps, to Chaucer’s Miller’s Tale, in which a carpenter’s wife is unfaithful to him with his apprentice. This would follow with the themes of marital strife and discontent earlier in the poem.
It could also mean “brides of Christ”!
