“The City” was the moment that Drive Like I Do became The 1975. It was during our natural hiatus from performance around 2009. A new love for house music and access to technology meant we organically reapproached the band. It was now a synthesis between electronic music and our estabilished understanding of what a band is / could be. I was really unispired by current bands and what it meant to be in a band. I can remember making the decision to step away from looking for validation and to validade The 1975 only with creative expression and a disregard for what outside influences seemed to want. Dirty Hit was also started around this time as a wider reaction to this.
