Driver, where you taking us?
Following on from the previous point of the blue bus being the Vietnam induction vehicle, soldiers some were willing to go into battle, however once they reached Vietnam they felt lost, that they didn’t belong or scared as they were in land that was dense with jungle and was largely farmland. A sense of the unknown shrouded Vietnam, not only through difficult terrain, but also guerrilla warfare and not always knowing who the enemy were.
Additionally in relation to drugs, the “driver” may be referring to LSD or even heroin, and when tripping he doesn’t know where it’s taking him. It’s a journey yet he’s uncertain how the experience will go.
