Right outside of Delacroix

from Bob Dylan – Tangled Up In Blue Lyrics on Rap Genius

Meaning

Delacroix (the proper pronunciation has a long “o” at the end) is an island in Louisiana famous for its fishing. However, Dylan, especially around the time of Blood on the Tracks, was all about 19th century French poetry—see the Verlaine and Rimbaud shoutouts on “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go,” and the possible reference to Verlaine in verse 6. It’s an intriguing possibility, therefore, that this line might be a reference to the French Romantic poet Eugene Delacroix, who was a major inspiration for Verlaine and the other symbolists, themselves inspirations for Dylan.
