Genius Annotation

The first track from The Holy Bible, this was written by Richey Edwards from the perspective of a prostitute. It samples the 1993 documentary Hookers, Hustlers, Pimps and their Johns, by Beeban Kidron, about the prostitution trade

Whilst the sex trade provides the main thrust of the song on the surface, there is a strong allegory between the experiences of the prostitute and the songwriter in the undercurrent. The song uses images of self-abuse and the feelings of being sold to the highest bidder all of which were pertinent to the life of Edwards.

Being the opening track on the album ‘The Holy Bible’ Yes sets the tone for what is to become a voyage into the depths of the human psyche.
