Everybody was for fighting
Wouldn't wanna waste a thing
A deceptively deep pair of lines. There are two readings:
1) Everybody was for fighting, not wanting to waste a bit of what they could have/win.
2) Everybody was for fighting, which is a waste.
The word “fighting” here is loaded. It could mean literally fighting (anti-war themes are found throughout the album), or figuratively fighting through life, i.e. trying to succeed. After all, in life you’re a slave to money then you die, right?
