Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace
In the previous line, Lennon asks us to imagine a world without heaven or hell; here, he further explicates the verse, asking us to also imagine a world without countries and religion.
In other words, he’s asking us to imagine a world where there are no antiquated doctrines to die for, no dogma of generations long gone to blindly support, no wars fought in the name of people that we’ve never seen or met, and thus no heaven or hell to work towards. He is asking us to spread love just for the sake of love.
