Robot Lyrics

[Verse 2]
All this time, I've been misled
There were nothing but crossed wires in my head
I've been taught to think that what I feel
Doesn't matter at all 'til you say it's real

[Pre-Chorus]
I would scream
But I'm just this hollow shell
Waiting here
Begging, "Please, set me free so I can feel"
Hey

[Chorus]
Stop trying to live my life for me
I need to breathe
I'm not your robot

Stop telling me I'm part of the big machine
I'm breaking free
Can't you see?
I can move, I can speak without somebody else operating me
You gave me eyes, and now I see
I'm not your robot, I'm just me (Ahh, ahh-ahh, ahh-ahh)
I'm not your robot, I'm just me (Ahh, ahh-ahh, ahh-ahh)
I'm not your robot
[Pre-Chorus]
I would scream
But I'm just this hollow shell
Waiting here
Begging, "Please, set me free so I can feel"
Hey

[Chorus]
Stop trying to live my life for me
I need to breathe
I'm not your robot

Stop telling me I'm part of the big machine
I'm breaking free
Can't you see?
I can move, I can speak without somebody else operating me
You gave me eyes, and now I see
I'm not your robot, I'm just me (Ahh, ahh-ahh, ahh-ahh)
I'm not your robot, I'm just me (Ahh, ahh-ahh, ahh-ahh)
I'm not your robot

About

This song bio is unreviewed
Genius Annotation

Robot is the 11th track off Miley Cyrus' 3rd studio album, “Can’t Be Tamed.”

Lyrically, the song is about Hollywood (Disney in particular) and how they were controlling Miley’s every move. “Set me free,” and “Sell this, and hit your mark,” are prime examples.

However, the song is also about Cyrus taking her life back. She proclaims, “Stop trying to live my life for me,” and “I’m not your robot,” as loud and clear defiances to Disney.

The album’s theme was seen as “too provocative” by Disney. Thus, Disney refused to promote the album extensively (i.e., radio, bundles, and merch), unlike her previous two bodies of work (Meet Miley Cyrus and Breakout). This boycott gave more testament to Cyrus' claims that Disney was overbearing and too controlling.

What did Miley Cyrus say about "Robot"?
Genius Answer

It’s about not letting people tell you who you shouldn’t and should be. And [it’s] about people that try to tell you: ‘This is what you need to sell.’ ‘Look relatable.’ It’s like, ‘I am relatable.’
