Genius Annotation

“Doin' Time” was a single off of Sublime’s final eponymous album. It was one of their few songs on the Billboard charts, peaking at #87.

It tells the story of an unfaithful woman who makes her lover feel as if he’s doing time in prison. As always, you can make a case for the heroin/girl metaphor, but here it is more likely to just be about a girl.

This song takes the melody of George Gershwin’s original “Summertime”.
