I’ll Be Alright Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Can you remember ever having any fun?
'Cause when all it's all said and done
I always believed we were
But now I'm not so sure

[Verse 2]
I drink a gin and take a couple of my pills
Then my parade will give you chills
No honey, don't give me up
I know we've had enough

[Chorus]
You should go if you want to
Yeah, go if you want to
I'll be alright, be alright
Well I've made so many messes
And this love has grown so restless
Your whole life's been nothing but this
I won't let you go loveless

I'll be alright, I'll be alright

[Verse 3]
I'm so self loathing that it's hard for me to see
Reality from what I dream

Now no one believes me
No, not a single thing

What did Passion Pit say about "I'll Be Alright"?
Genius Answer

In a Cover Story on Passion Pit by Pitchfork, Angelakos was asked what the meaning of the song is. He answered:

I was just fucking tired of putting someone through pain. I was like, ‘Listen, I’m crazy, so get the fuck out. I am never going to get better.’ The party is over.

Angelakos explains that the guilt he felt towards his ex-wife Kristi Mucci—fiancé at the time Gossamer was released—after a manic episode that lasted nearly two months was the inspiration in the writing process:

I was really terrible to Kristy. I scared her a lot. I attempted to jump out the window of our apartment, and she tackled me to the floor. I was paranoid, I thought my career was over.“
"Everyone was telling her, ‘Why are you with this guy?’ At a certain point, she realized, ‘Wait, Michael hasn’t seen his doctors in a while, he’s fucking manic.’ If she had left me, there is no question that I would have killed myself. I don’t remember anything I did—which is terrifying, because now I have to live with this guilt.” A few songs on Gossamer —specifically, “I’ll Be Alright” and “Constant Conversations”—directly address this period, and Mucci finds those tracks hard to listen to.
