Tired of Being Alone Lyrics

[Intro]
Sweet baby

[Chorus]
I'm so tired of being alone
I'm so tired of on-my-own
Won't you help me girl
Just as soon as you can?

[Verse 1]
People say that I've found a way
To make you say that you love me

Hey baby, you didn't go for that
It's a natural fact
That I wanna come back
Show me where it's at, baby

[Chorus]
I'm so tired of being alone
I'm so tired of on-my-own
Won't you help me girl
Soon as you can?

[Verse 2]
I guess you know that I, uh, I love you so
Even though you don't want me no more

Hey hey hey hey, I'm cryin' tears
All through the years
I'll tell ya like it is
Honey, love me if you will
[Bridge]
Yeah baby
Tired of being alone here by myself, now
I tell ya, I'm tired baby
I'm tired of being all wrapped up late at night
In my dreams,
nobody but you, baby
Sometimes I wonder (Oooooh)
If you love me like you say you do
You see baby, I been thinkin' about it, yeah
I been, I been wantin' to get next to you baby
Ya see, sometimes I fold my arms, I say mmmm hmmm hmmm (Oooh)
Yeah baby
Meeting you has proven to me
To be my greatest dream, yeah

[Outro]
Tired, baby
Yeah, you don't know what I'm talkin' about
Sometimes late at night, I get to wonderin' about you baby
Oh, baby, baby
I'm so tired of being alone
I'm so tired of being alone
I'm so tired of being alone…

What did Al Green say about "Tired of Being Alone"?
Genius Answer

Green insisted that his producer, Willie Mitchell, will record the song despite his (Mitchell’s) objections

I was toting my song around in my pocket for days on end, saying, ‘Hey, I got a song. Finally, at the end of the session, I said, 'Well, I still got a song.’

Genius Answer

My girlfriend kept leaving me the key and leaving the apartment, and she would leave me a lot. … It was snowing, and I had all the windows open because I was there by myself for hours on end, and I says, well, how can I do something with this? … And so I took a pencil and started writing it down ‘cause I was angry, and I was writing – “I’m tired of being alone. I’m tired of on my own.”

Then I wrote several other things, I scratched those out, and I said, “help me as soon as you can.” And then I went to getting serious about it – “people say that I found a way to make you say that you love me” – which is, I don’t have to make you. If you really loved me, you’d be here with me. And I was writing on that connotation. “You didn’t go for that. It’s a natural fact.”

— Al Green, Fresh Air, 1991
