Again Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Hey, let 'em do it again, yeah
Hey, you said you were my friend
Hey, turn me upside down, oh
Hey, feelin' so down

Hey, hey

[Chorus]
You made a fool of me again
And again, and again, and again, and again
And again, and again, and again, and again

[Verse 2]
Hey, I know I made the same mistake, yeah
I, I won't do it again, no

Why, why do you slap me in the face? Ow
I, I didn't say it was okay, no
No, no

[Chorus]
You violate a part of me again
And again, and again, and again, and again
And again, and again, and again

[Bridge]
Ah, ooh
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot
[Verse 3]
Hey, you had time to think it out, yeah
Hey, your weak will won't help her heal her heart
Hey, I'll bet it really eats you up, huh?

[Chorus]
Extending part of me again
And again, and again, and again, and again

[Outro]
Ooh
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah
Doot-doot, yeah

About

Genius Annotation

Peaking at #8 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, “Again” was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 1997.

Another of Staley’s heroin hymns, his lyrics are a painful example of his struggles with depression, addiction and loss, reflecting on the isolation of not knowing anyway out.

In October 1996, after Staley’s former fiancée, Demri Lara Parrott, died of a drug overdose, he was placed on a 24-hour suicide watch. After Staley’s death at the age of 34 in April 2002, Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees, Queens Of The Stone Age) told Rolling Stone:

He never recovered from Demri’s death. After that, I don’t think he wanted to go on.
