So Long, and Thanks for All the Booze Lyrics
Pick yourself up off the ground
You're sure as hell too good to let them hold you down
[Verse 1]
Waste of chances, waste of time
You gotta let me be me
You waste it all on wasted lines
You gotta let me be me
Back myself into a corner once again
Take you for a liar while you call yourself a friend
It's the end, it's the end
[Chorus]
So gimme gimme my motivation
Gimme gimme my dreams
You gotta tear me down to set me free
And gimme gimme my revelation, gimme back my scene
You've gotta let me be, you gotta let me be me
You gotta let me be me
[Verse 2]
I gave a lot to let you in
You gotta let me be me
I shook your hand, you pulled the pin
You gotta let me be
Now I'm all ears to find you're lying through your teeth
You wear the smile to hide the coward underneath
Bittersweet, bittersweet
So gimme gimme my motivation
Gimme gimme my dreams
You gotta tear me down to set me free
And gimme gimme my revelation, gimme back my scene
You've gotta let me be, you gotta let me be me
[Bridge]
A waste of chances, waste of time (You gotta let me be me)
A waste of chances, waste of time
[Chorus]
So gimme gimme my motivation
Gimme gimme my dreams
You gotta tear me down to set me free
And gimme gimme my revelation, gimme back my scene
You've gotta let me be
You've gotta let me be
You gotta let me be me
About
This song is “a big ‘fuck you’” to anyone who tried to make All Time Low sound like something they weren’t, while also giving them a shoutout for helping them get to where they are today (and, apparently, for all the alcohol that comes with that). It’s a classic case of punkish individuality, and this head-banger of a song reflects that.
The title is a play on the phrase “so long, and thanks for all the fish” from Douglas Adams’s book Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, in which Earth’s dolphins left that message when they fled the planet just before its demolition. This scene is how the movie opens, and in kind, the album was originally going to start with this song. In its context, All Time Low is saying they’re leaving behind all of their pressures before they break their spirit; instead they’re going to do their own thing.

Alex Gaskarth told Billboard that “‘So Long and Thanks for All the Booze’ is obviously a send-off and a farewell and a big ‘fuck you’ to some of the people from our past that tried to steer us in the wrong direction.”
