I Dreamed a Neil Young Song Lyrics

[Chorus]
I had a dream and I woke up singing
I was playing in a band with my friends

Since I was young I've always dreamed
About playing in a band with my friends

[Verse 1]
I tried to move back home for a while
But my home town got too small

So I headed north in the winter time
To the city of Montreal

[Bridge]
Where does it end? Where did it begin?
What did we lose? And what will we find?

And if you run, I'm right behind
'Cause everybody dies
So I'll attempt to live

[Chorus]
I had a dream and I woke up singing
I was playing in a band with my friends

Since I was young I've always dreamed
About playing in a band with my friends

[Verse 2]
Late at night, when the house is quiet
Sometimes I think about the end
What will I remember from the years
I was playing in a band with my friends?

[Chorus]
I had a dream and I woke up singing
I was playing in a band with my friends

Since I was young I've always dreamed
About playing in a band with my friends

About

Genius Annotation

This song was inspired by a nightmare Win had. As he was soundchecking a new Arcade Fire song, the crowd all got up and left.

He woke up and frantically scribbled down the lyrics and tune, like Keith Richards did with “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”. The song reminded him of a Neil Young song, so he named it “I Dreamed A Neil Young Song”.

The song debuted on October 26, 2013 at the 27th annual Bridge School Benefit concert, organized by Young and his wife Pegi, and Neil came onstage to join the band for this song.
