Sir Henry Cecil: An Obituary Lyrics

One of the most decorated trainers in the history of horse racing, Sir Henry Cecil, has passed away aged 70.

He was born in Aberdeen in 1943 and began training at the age of 26. Under a decade later, he had his first British Classic winner - Bolonski winning the 1975 2000 Guineas race at Newmarket. He took the consecutive year's title with Wollow - ridden by Frankie Dettori's father.

He went on to win a total of twenty British Classics. His most successful horse was the legendary Frankel, who he trained to a monumental fourteen straight wins in an unbeaten career that only ended in 2012 when he was retired to stud. Cecil trained more Ascot winners than any other trainer in history, 75, and was knighted for services to racing in 2011.

He married his former secretary, Jane McKeown, in 2008. He is survived by two sons and a daughter.
