About

Genius Annotation

Creole is an up-tempo R&B banger, stylistically similar to the other songs on Beyoncé’s sophomore effort, B'Day, such as Green Light, Déjà Vu, and Freakum Dress.

Serving as an ode to her Creole heritage, as well as her identity as a black woman, we see Bey lightly tackle a topic that would be explored more in depth in her 2016 song, Formation. Creole, however, did not receive as much attention when it was released nearly a decade ago as it was a Japanese exclusive bonus track on both the Standard (2006) and Deluxe (2007) editions of B'Day.
