About
Damon Albarn has said before how heroin makes him ‘incredibly productive’. “Caramel” details his struggle to remain functioning as an artist in face of his high-profile breakup with Elastica’s Justine Frischmann by appealing to the drug (the word ‘caramel’ is reference to the color of heated heroin).
Caramel is woozy, far out, away-with-the-planets.
-13 Special EditionIf I had to name a favourite Blur song, Caramel would definitely be it. That and Tender. I played Caramel obsessively in my car over and over again. You can play it over and over again because it starts and ends in the same place. I’m quite proud of it. It’s a grown up musical track and the kind of thing we’d been trying to do for a long time but never really got to work. In that one it works 100%.
