Sowing Season (Yeah)

Sowing Season (Yeah) Lyrics
Was losing all my friends
Was losing them to drinking and to driving
Was losing all my friends
But I got them back
I am on the mend
At least now I can say that I am trying
And I hope you will forget
The things I still lack
[Hook]
Yeah
Yeah
[Verse 2]
Is it in you now
To bear to hear the truth that you have spoken?
Twisted up by knaves
To make a trap for fools
Is it in you now
To watch the things you gave your life to broken?
And stoop and build them up
With worn out tools
[Hook]
Yeah!
Yeah!
Yeah, yeah! How?
Yeah!
Nothing gets so bad
A whisper from your father couldn't fix it
And your whisper's like a bridge
It's a river, spanned
Take all that you have
And turn it into something you would miss if
Somebody threw that brick
Shattered all your plans
[Hook]
Yeah!
Yeah!
Yeah, yeah! How?
Yeah!
[Chorus 1]
Time to get the seeds into the cold ground
It takes a while to grow anything
Before it's coming to an end, yeah
Before you put my body in the cold ground
Take some time to warm it with your hands
Before it's coming to an end, yeah
[Bridge]
It's coming to an end, yeah
It's coming to an end, yeah
Do you miss the blend
Of color she left in your black and white field?
Do you feel condemned
Just for being there?
I am not your friend!
I am just a man who knows how to feel
I am not your friend!
I'm not your lover! I'm not your family!
[Hook]
Yeah!
Yeah!
Yeah, yeah! How?
Yeah!
[Chorus 2]
Time to get the seeds into the cold ground
It takes a while to grow anything
Before it's coming to an end, yeah
About
On “Sowing Season (Yeah)”, Jesse writes about his Great Uncle Leo, among other family members, who had gone off to fight in World War II. His Great Uncle was an American soldier on a transport ship headed for Japan. After the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the transport turned around and made its way back to America. In the song, Jesse explores the dual notion of the relief of his Great Uncle not having to go to war whilst “something completely awful was happening”.
The song gets its title from Stephen King’s novel, Secret Window, Secret Garden, in which the main character writes a story entitled “Sowing Season”.
Like many other leaked demos, the demo version of the song is all acoustic with vocals. The song was reworked with the full band and appeared in the band’s third album The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me as “Sowing Season (Yeah)”. A rerecording of the original acoustic version was included in the band’s official release of the Leaked Demos 2006.
