Spiderhead Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I am the one you left for dead
Say you want it, too
You are the bullet in my head
And as you stand over my grave
Tell me it's okay
Your porcelain lips upon my face

[Pre-Chorus]
Either I'm in heaven, or I'm in hell
Am I losing my mind here? 'Cause I can't tell
I've been waiting for answers for way too long
Seems I'm always waiting around

[Chorus]
Spiders in my head, spiders in my mind
You may take my eyes, but baby, I'm not blind
It all works out in time
You know I'm gonna be alright
You may take my eyes, but, baby, I'm not blind

[Post-Chorus]
Talk to me now

[Verse 2]
I think your mother wants me dead
Say you want it, too
I am a schizophrenic man
I wouldn't change you if I could
Say you want me, too
Treat me cold, I'll play it cool
[Chorus]
Spiders in my head, spiders in my mind
You may take my eyes, but baby, I'm not blind
It all works out in time
You know I'm gonna be alright
You may take my eyes, but, baby, I'm not blind

[Bridge]
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh

[Chorus]
Spiders in my head, spiders in my mind
You may take my eyes, but baby, I'm not blind
It all works out in time
You know I'm gonna be alright
You may take my eyes, but, baby, I'm not blind

Genius Annotation

“Spiderhead” by Cage the Elephant digs into the complexities of personal identity and the battle to break free from societal limitations. The title itself evokes imagery of being entangled or ensnared, which may symbolize feeling trapped or restricted in one’s mind or circumstances.

Throughout the song, there’s a sense of resistance and insubordination against expectations and norms. The lyrics touch on subjects of self-discovery, reflection, and the craving for independence. Lines like “All the days of my life, I’ve been tryin' to find her” suggest a quest for authenticity and understanding.

The chorus, with its repetitive abstain of “Ain’t restin' until I’m up there with you,” hints at a longing for something more noteworthy, maybe rising above impediments or accomplishing a sense of flexibility. The driving instrument and serious vocals increase the criticalness and assurance of the song’s message.

Overall, “Spiderhead” can be translated as a rallying cry for independence and self-expression, encouraging listeners to grasp their true selves and seek after their goals without hesitation.

Genius Answer

It started from a simple riff that I had – you can hear it during the verse. This was one of the ‘struggle songs’ for us. We probably wrote four different choruses for this one; we just didn’t want to settle. We didn’t want to assume that the first thing was always the right thing. I never want to say that we took the easy way out on this record. If you’ve ever had that feeling where you had to convince yourself that something is the right thing, then you know it’s not the right thing. It’s hard to come to that realization, too. As an artist, you want to love everything that you do. But there’s a fine line between loving something and convincing yourself to love it.
