About

Genius Annotation

A strong argument could be made that “Rivers” is the central track on England Keep My Bones, because the album’s two central themes—mortality and England—meet so consummately in its lyrics. Frank’s bluesy guitar evokes the great tradition of songs about rivers dating back to Robert Johnson’s “Travelling Riverside Blues.” Meanwhile his lyrics evoke the association of rivers with the passage of history and time, and therefore also death.
