My Fault Lyrics
I took a walk on a Saturday night
Fog in the air just to make my mind seem clear
Where do I go from here?
I see my breath pushing steam through the air
Shaking hands run through my hair
My fears, where do I go from here?
[Chorus]
Is it my fault, is it my fault?
We've been missing each other
We've been missing each other
My fault, is it my fault?
We've been missing each other
We've been missing each other
[Verse 2]
Walking down to the water's edge
Asking why I'm here instead of home
Now I stand alone
I stop to stare at the ocean side
I'm breathing in just to fill inside with peace
Like you were here with me
[Chorus]
Is it my fault, is it my fault?
We've been missing each other
We've been missing each other
My fault, is it my fault?
We've been missing each other
We've been missing each other
Oh, it's on the warmest night
It's in the brightest light
It's when the world is moving
Oh, it's in the faintest cry
It's in the lover's eyes
Is when I need you most
And don't you know?
[Chorus]
Is it my fault, is it my fault?
We've been missing each other
We've been missing each other
My fault, is it my fault?
We've been missing each other
We've been missing each other
My fault, is it my fault?
We've been missing each other
We've been missing each other
My fault, is it my fault?
We've been missing each other
We've been missing each other
About
“My Fault” was first released as part of the Continued Silence EP on February 14, 2012. After the success of Night Visions, the song was added as a bonus track on most deluxe editions.
The song was inspired by Dan Reynolds‘ own guilt being away on tour when his wife was expecting their first child, Arrow Reynolds, because he felt he wasn’t balancing his time between his work and his family well enough.

Find answers to frequently asked questions about the song and explore its deeper meaning
During a radio broadcast for WFUZ, 92.1, Dan Reynolds explained what this song meant to him:
I think most people in their lives have been through some point where you feel like you’re at fault for something or you’re just different from everybody else, and because of that you think you’ve messed things up. I definitely have felt that in times of my life, so this is a song about feeling inadequate. Sorry, that’s sad probably, but that’s what it’s about."
At the Bing Lounge in Portland Oregon, Dan expressed what he was thinking of when writing the song:
I wrote this song when I was on the coast – on tour actually. My wife was pregnant and sometimes it’s hard to be away from somebody that you love. […] This song is about feeling like you have maybe messed something up that meant a great deal to you."
