Harvest for the World Lyrics

[Verse 1]
All babies together, every one a seed
Half of us are satisfied, half of us in need

Love's bountiful in us, tarnished by our greed
Oh, when will there be a harvest for the world?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Hey

[Verse 2]
A nation planted, so concerned with gain
As the seasons come and go, greater grows the pain
And far too many feelin' the strain
Oh, when will there be a harvest for the world?
Yeah, yeah

[Bridge]
Gather every man, gather every woman
Celebrate your lives, give thanks for your children (No)
Gather everyone (Gather everyone), gather all together (Gather all together)
Overlooking none (Overlooking none), hopin' life gets better for the world
Yeah, yeah, yeah
No

[Verse 3]
Dress me up for battle when all I want is peace
Those of us who pay the price come home with the least
And nation after nation turning into beast
Oh, when will there be a harvest for the world?
Yeah, yeah, yeah
[Outro]
When will there be?
I wanna know now, now
When will there be a harvest? (Harvest for the world)
When will there be a harvest? (Harvest for the world)
When will there be a harvest? (Harvest for the world)
When will there be a harvest? (Harvest for the world)
When will there be a harvest? (Harvest for the world)
When will there be a harvest? (Harvest for the world)
When will there be? (Harvest for the world)
When will there be? (Harvest for the world)
Everybody (Harvest for the world)
Oh, I'm talking bout the children (Harvest for the world)
When will there be a harvest? (Harvest for the world)
When will there be? (Harvest for the world)

Genius Annotation

One of their socially conscious singles (about world peace), the song was composed by Ernie Isley, who wrote most of the lyrics, together with Marvin Isley and Chris Jasper, with additional lyrics and musical arrangements added by the three original members O'Kelly, Rudolph and Ronald. It charted at number 63 in the Billboard Hot 100, but fared better in the UK, where it peaked at number ten.

What did The Isley Brothers say about "Harvest for the World"?
Genius Answer

I knew for sure that “Harvest…” spoke to a lot of what was going on. Usually when you do that with a song, it does last a while. I didn’t know how long – because you never know – but I did know it had a universal appeal to it and it touched a lot of issues. So we felt really good about it when we finished. It’s one of my favourites.

— Chris Jasper, Uncut, 2015

There’s intelligence from one end of the world to the other, East and West, and it’s amazing that folks will come up with a formula to literally blow something up halfway around the world, but there’s apparently no cure for cancer or diabetes or any of the other things that have plagued humanity for quite some time. This song will always be relevant, as long as the goal isn’t accomplished.

— Ernie Isley, Uncut, 2015
