Jem Theme Lyrics

[Verse 1: Jem and the Holograms]
Jem (Jem is excitement)
Ooh, Jem (Jem is adventure)
Ooh (Glamour and glitter, fashion and fame)

[Chorus: Jem and the Holograms]
Jem (Jem is truly outrageous)
(Truly, truly, truly outrageous)
Whoa, Jem (Jem)
The music's contagious (Outrageous)
Jem is my name, no one else is the same
Jem is my name

[Verse 2: The Misfits]
But we're The Misfits
Our songs are bitter
We are The Misfits, The Misfits
And we're gonna get her

[Chorus: Jem and the Holograms]
Jem (Jem)
The music's contagious (Outrageous)
Jem is my name, no one else is the same
Jem is my name (Jem!)

Genius Annotation

Jem, often also known as “Jem and the Holograms” after the titular band in the story, was an American animated show from 1985 to 1988. This was the theme song for the first season, after which it was replaced by “Jem Girls” for the rest of the series run. Jem’s singing voice was provided by Britta Phillips, who sang this song for her audition and got hired on the first try. It was her first professional gig.

The song is interrupted midway through by the show’s antagonists, The Misfits, the main antagonists of The Holograms. A harder rock image to The Holograms' softer 80s vibe, The Misfits would try to ruin The Holograms career in ways that often involved actual crimes, but never seemed to be punished to the level they should have been.
