Sprout and the Bean Lyrics

And the danger, danger
Drawing near them was a white coat

And the danger, danger
Drawing near them was a broad boat
And the water, water
Running clear beneath a white throat

And the hollow chatter
Of the talking of the tadpoles

Who know th'outside?
Should we go outside?
Should we break some bread?
Are y'interested?

About

Genius Annotation

A single from The Milk-Eyed Mender (2004), this song gained fame after it appeared in a number of commercials including a Victoria’s Secret ad. However, it is best known for being used, to chilling effect, in the horror film The Strangers (2008).

There are various interpretations of the song’s meaning, which vary widely from exploring Christianity, marriage, and abortion, to food, to Gregor Mendel, and to fairy tales from childhood.

Newsom has been notoriously mum on the song, but her later album Have One on Me (2010) all but discloses that she had an abortion in some point in her life.
