About

Genius Annotation

“Woman (reading)” is a thematic companion to earlier Rooms of the House track, “Woman (in Mirror.)” This song creates a similar atmosphere as the first “Woman” song, detailing the subtle beauty found in a functioning relationship, only to deconstruct this in the latter half of the song, as the demise of the relationship is revealed. The back-half builds in aggression as the narrator’s memories flood back in. In the final lines, the music again scales way back. The image of the narrator standing alone in an empty living room leaves the listener to contemplate the memories and objects that are assigned meaning in the rise and fall of relationships.
