The Swimming Pool Song Lyrics
I am emptied out and drained
My capacity remains unchanged
I am a haunted swimming pool
I am emptied out and drained
My capacity remains unchanged
I don't know the source of my faith
But I know I will be full again
Come on in and take a swim
I am a burning church
I am artifice and years collapsing
I have not yet become all that I will be
I am a burning church
I am artifice and years collapsing
I have not yet become all that I will be
And when my body has been spent my soul here will remain
Graffiti on a wall for all eyes to see
This only feels like the death of evеrything
About
Per an interview with The Rolling Stone, the song title refences a Milwaukee venue called The Rave. In the basement of the venue, there actually is a haunted swimming pool and there’s a section of the wall Mac Miller had signed, it was one of the last places he played before he died, and he had written “I once lived and now I am dead. My soul remains here. Enjoy. P.S. I sold this place out three times.”
The song also references the church of Notre Dame, which burned in 2019, during the same week she visited the Milwaukee music venue.
Laura explains in the interview that things are always ever changing, and that despite apocalyptic vibes feeling very strong during the albums release, that does not mean it will always feel this way. Overall, she urges listeners to hold onto hope.
