Recorded as a continuation of the same musical bed as “Let’s Get it On”, this song sees Marvin transition into a message of spreading love and peace throughout a troubled, divided world in the 1970s.
Marvin first recorded his vocals for “Let’s Get it On”’s demo track with a more socio-political approach but changed the theme to one of sanctified sexual freedom. “Keep Getting it On” became the song Marvin envisioned when he and Ed Townsend started working on the instrumental.
To “get it on” this way means to place loving one another above all else so that every one of God’s “children”, as he sees the world, can live a worthwhile and happy life in harmony.
