Dear Diamond Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Dear diamond
Pretty and new
Perfectly flawless too good to be true
Dear diamond
You shine like the sun
Wrap around my finger just like he does

[Verse 2]
You cost more than he wanted to lose
And with this ring I said I do
Promised to never do what I’ve done
I’ve been lying to someone

[Verse 3]
Dear diamond
What will we do?
Lie like the devil or just face the truth
Dear diamond
Be my saving grace
What he don’t know will kill him
That I can’t face

[Verse 4]
You cost more than he wanted to lose
And with this ring I said I do
I promised to never do what I’ve done
I’ve been lying to someone
Dear diamond
[Verse 5]
Dear diamond
With your band of gold
Some people you have, some people you hold
Dear diamond
I promise to keep
This secret I have while he’s holding me

Genius Annotation

This is one of two cuts on Four The Record that Lambert penned solo, (the other one is “Safe”). It finds the singer debating whether to confess to her beau about her past or keep it to herself.

The song features the Country and Bluegrass singer, Patty Loveless. Lambert told Billboard magazine: “I was in Switzerland doing a festival last September and Patty was there. We got to spend some time together. She was already one of my heroes, but I definitely left there loving her even more. So as soon as I wrote it I was like, ‘I want Patty to sing on this song,’ and she did. It was a dream come true. It’s really special to me.”
