About

Genius Annotation

“I Am The Walrus (Live)” was released as a B-side to “Cigarettes & Alcohol”. In 1998 it was included on the B-side compilation album The Masterplan.

This song was a steady part of Oasis' live performance in their early days before their debut album was released.

When Oasis played small venues and pubs, they were usually required to play for at least 30 minutes. However, at this point in time, they did not have enough material to play 30 minutes. So they decided to do a cover of this song (with an prolonged jam in the end) at the end of their sets to be able to hit the 30 minute mark, after which they would stop and collect their paycheck.

The song was also used as the final encore during most concerts of the 2008-09 “Dig Out Your Soul” tour.
