About

Genius Annotation

“Can’t Fight Against the Youth” is about youthful rebellion and the feeling of freedom that comes as a result. This track was inspired by Brendon Urie’s rebellion as teenager, when he decided to both leave his family’s Mormon faith and pursue music fulltime.

Though his family was initially disapproving of his choices, Brendon revealed in an interview with People that they quickly reconsiled.

When I told them I wasn’t going to college or on a Mormon mission, that I don’t believe in God and I was pursuing music, they were like, “You’ve gotta move out.” They cooled off, and when we made our first Panic! at the Disco album, I got a care package from my family with this beautiful letter: “No matter what, we will always love you.”

This is one of two songs featured as a bonus track on the Target and Japanese versions of the album.
