Genius Annotation

“Delilah” is a song by British rock band Queen. Written and sung by Freddie Mercury about his cat of the same name, it was originally released on their fourteenth studio album Innuendo in 1991. The song was released as a single on 14 December only in Thailand. Reportedly, drummer Roger Taylor was not fond of the track, and only allowed it to be included on the album after Freddie insisted. It is also one of the only Queen songs to not include instrumentation by Taylor.
“Delilah” is often overlooked as being a weird love song, when in reality it’s a very sentimental and heartfelt song for his cat. While Freddie Mercury was suffering from AIDS, his cats were one of the few things that brought him joy and kept him going near the end of his life. “Delilah” is a song that shows his gratitude for them, particularly Delilah, who was his favorite.

Genius Answer

“I was pleased with the guitar on that – [mimics sound] ‘meow, meow, meow’.”
Was that played through a talkbox?

“Yeah. It’s the first time. I finally succumbed and used one. They wheeled it in and I said, ‘Well, I suppose there’s no other way I can make "meow” noises.’"

Brian May – August 1991, Guitar World
