Before I Think It’s Going To Rain Today’s appearance as the penultimate song on Randy Newman’s self-titled album, it was first recorded by Julius LaRosa, Judy Collins, and Eric Burdon, among others. It remains one of Newman’s most covered songs to date.

However, he had this to say about it in a Rolling Stone article from 2017:

The music is emotional—even beautiful—and the lyrics are not. The honest truth is the song bothered me because of the darkness—it felt sophomoric, too maudlin.
