Edelweiss (Reprise) Lyrics

[CAPTAIN VON TRAPP]
Edelweiss, edelweiss
Every morning you greet me
Small and white, clean and bright
You look happy to meet me

Blossom of snow, may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever
Edelweiss, edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever

[MARIA]
Small and white

[CAPTAIN VON TRAPP, MARIA & CHILDREN]
Clean and bright
You look happy to meet me

[CAPTAIN VON TRAPP, MARIA, CHILDREN & AUDIENCE]
Blossom of snow, may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever
Edelweiss, edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever

About

Genius Annotation

Edelweiss is another timeless song from the timeless movie, The Sound of Music, which takes no shame in regarding the eponymous white flower which is the national flower of Austria.

The song shows the Captain’s undying love for his country of Austria, even as it is annexed by Nazi Germany in the Anschluss, and is a quiet act of defiance against their invasion.

This was the last song lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II co-wrote before his death in 1960.
