Genius Annotation

“Save The Day” is the seventh track from Selena Gomez' debut solo album Stars Dance, and like many of it’s predesscors on the album (e.g. “Come & Get It”, “Birthday” “Slow Down” & “Like A Champion”), Save The Day has a heavy EDM, club-ready sound influence.

The song was written by Olivia Waithe (a.k.a Livvi Franc), Mitch Allan & Jason Evigan, a.ka. production and hitmaker duo “The Suspex”. With the production being handled by the latter two.

Lyrically the song finds Gomez in a club situation, hindered with serious sparks made with a guy. Having unexpected amounts of energy throughout the night, she doesn’t want the night to end because it will mean they have to depart.

Genius Answer

Moreover, according to Songfacts, Gomez explained during a hour-long livestream:

It has a Spanish guitar feel. I’m Latin, so I kind of love that vibe, Do you ever have moments where you don’t ever want them to end? I’ve had those moments. It’s about saving those moments and never wanting it to go away.

Producer Jason Evigan of The Suspex also told MTV News :

Jennifer Lopez wanted [it] really badly. It’s, like, real. It’s, like, really cool [and] up-tempo. It’s about like kind of ‘[Let’s] dance all night. Let’s save the day. Let’s go into the next day. Let’s keep it going all night’ type of thing.
