That’s the Way (My Love Is) Lyrics
They say that life ain’t easy
They’ll say your life’s a crime
Destroy up all good reason
How i’m alive
They’ll say that nothing matters
Not even your will to survive
Of course I Love you baby
Cause i’m alive
Yes, i’m alive
Whenever i call you out
Whenever i draw you round
Whenever is here and now
[Chorus]
That’s the way
My love is
That’s the way i care
You should call on me baby
I’m always there for you
Yeah, i’m always there for you
[Verse 2]
They’ll say you’ll lose your nerve soon
To claim identity
Disgrace our sacred promise
With no belief
Oh, how i believe in you
That’s the way my
Love is, for you
That’s the way my
Love is, for you
[Guitar Solo]
[Verse 3]
I feel a coming age now
I feel a dawn in me
A certain sun keeps rising
On my belief in you
[Chorus]
That’s the way
My love is
That’s the way i care
You should call on me baby
’cause i’m always there for you
That’s the way
My love is
That’s the way i care
You should call on me baby
’cause i’m always there for you
Yeah, i’m always there for you
About
The second single off Zeitgeist was initially met with negative reviews, with critics engaging in endless comparisons to their ‘classic’ songs. In a fashion all too familiar to the Smashing Pumpkins, these opinions have slowly turned positive. Spin Magazine now considers this to be one of the greatest Pumpkin tracks ever released (well, in the top 20 anyway).
For reasons unknown, Paris Hilton appears in the music video in an odd fashion. She shows up briefly and discreetly, like a flicker on a television screen. The video is set in the future, with Corgan chasing after the object of his affection.

Billy Corgan via XM Artist Confidential:
We loved the [original] idea of the song, but that sounded too much like Mellon Collie. Right there you have a contradiction of thought: On one level, you know that people want to hear that kind of feeling from us as that identifies some of our best work. On the other hand, we don’t want to sound like that. So what do we do?
Its not as simple as rejecting the ideas because they’re familiar. One thing we’ve learned from working with Flood was that every idea is adaptable.
It’s ironic because we just ran into The Killers, who did their last album with Flood. We asked, ‘how was it working with Flood?’ They said, ‘We got sick of doing every song six different ways.’ We had a laugh because that’s the way he works. He gets you to come out of your comfort zone. One simple idea [a change in the guitar rhythm] took us from 1995 to 2005.
