With Every Light Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Taking over, we’re taking over
Throw the weight up off your shoulders now
That we can show our love
It’s almost over, it’s almost over
No more war and no more soldiers
To stand against his love

[Pre-Chorus 1]
Away with all the troubles that you’ve made
Away with waiting for another day
Away

[Chorus]
Look ma, the sun is shining on me
Impatient in love and aching to be
Could you believe in heaven
If heaven was all you had?

[Verse 2]
We’re taking over, we’re taking over
Throw away your four-leafed clovers
And stand beside this love

[Pre-Chorus 2]
Away with everything you’ve grown to hate
Away with everything that holds you safe
Away
[Bridge]
And every light I've found (every light I've found)
Is every light that’s shining down on me
Every light I've found (every light I've found)
Is every light that’s shining down on me
Every light I've found (every light I've found)
Is every light that’s shining down on me
I’m never alone

[Chorus]
Look ma, the sun is shining on me
Taking my time to do as I please
Could you believe in heaven
If heaven was all you had?

[Verse 3]
The sun is beaming, radiating
All the love we are creating
We are creating

[Outro]
And every light I've found (every light I've found)
Is every light that’s shining down on me
Every light I've found (every light I've found)
Is every light that’s shining down on me
Every light I've found (every light I've found)
Is every light that’s shining down on me
Every light I've found (every light I've found)
Is every light that’s shining down on me
I’m never alone

Genius Annotation

Hidden deep within Machina’s tracklist, “With Every Light” is a song that hits closer to Billy Corgan’s heart than most.

Speaking to Detroit News, he explained:

I think a song like ‘With Every Light’ (…) would be alright to play at my funeral, because there’s an honesty there that most people just glossed over. Those are really honest lyrics. In amongst a conceptual album where I was playing a character, that’s a song that really is close to my heart. I sing that song every night to warm up, and I still really connect with what those lyrics meant. It’s about a spiritual epiphany. It’s about realizing you’re in a tradition that’s far deeper than fame, and that’s kind of what holds you to it. I’m sure every night in John Lee Hooker’s life wasn’t so great. But he was steeped in the tradition of the blues, and am I whore, am I a poet or am I a folk musician, you know what I mean? All this other bulls— just kind of goes with the times. But that’s a song I think I would be alright with being part of what will be played at my funeral. It really expresses how I feel.
