About

Genius Annotation

As the introduction to The 1975’s debut EP, “Facedown” sets the stage for the more sonically reserved side of the band (in contrast to pop-oriented singles “The City” and “Chocolate”). This self-produced atmospheric track features warm, multi-tracked vocal harmonies and lush ambient guitar, with lyrics dramatizing a drug overdose.

The band’s interest in ambient experimentation continues to feature heavily in their music. They’ve also continued to frame most of their releases with similar introductory tracks—from “Intro/Set 3” (which Matty claimed was “a nod to” this track) to their twin versions of their self-titled intro on each of their full-length albums.
