Long, Long, Long Lyrics

[Instrumental Intro]

[Verse 1]
It's been a long, long, long time
How could I ever have lost you
When I loved you?

[Verse 2]
It took a long, long, long time
Now I'm so happy I found you
How I love you

[Bridge]
So many tears I was searching
So many tears I was wasting, oh, oh

[Verse 3]
Now I can see you, be you
How can I ever misplace you?
How I want you
Oh, I love you
You know that I need you
Oh, I love you

[Instrumental Outro]

Genius Annotation

George Harrison wrote and recorded “Long, Long, Long” in October 1968. On the surface, it appears to be about a woman he loves, but it could also be about the Lord. Most interpret this song as being about reclaiming his lost faith and deepening his renewed relationship with God.

In his autobiography, I Me Mine, published in 1980, George Harrison says that Long, Long, Long was influenced by the chord changes of “Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands”, a track by Bob Dylan off his 1966 LP Blonde on Blonde.

The drumming on this track is worth mentioning. It has been said that one of Ringo Starr’s skills was allowing a song to speak for itself and providing subtle, unintrusive beat. On this track the drum fills come as a surprise but are natural and a dominant feature. His talent has been vindicated.
