“Janie Jones”, the opening track on the Clash’s eponymous debut album released in 1977, is written to pop singer “Janie Jones”, (also known as Marion Mitchell) who was convicted in 1973 for running a prostitution ring. When released in 1977, Joe Strummer composed the song in dedication.
