Back Street Girl Lyrics

[Instrumental Intro]

[Verse 1]
I don't want you to be high
I don't want you to be down
Don't want to tell you no lie
Just want you to be around

[Pre-Chorus 1]
Please come right up to my ears
You will be able to hear what I say

[Chorus]
Don't want you out in my world
Just you be my back street girl

[Verse 2]
Please don't be part of my life
Please keep yourself to yourself
Please don't you bother my wife
That way you won't get no help

[Pre-Chorus 2]
Don't try to ride on my horse
You're rather common and coarse, anyway
[Chorus]
Don't want you out in my world
Just you be my back street girl

[Instrumental Bridge]

[Verse 3]
Please don't you call me at home
Please don't come knocking at night
Please never ring on the phone
Your manners are never quite right

[Pre-Chorus 3]
Please take the favors I grant
Curtsy and look nonchalant, just for me

[Chorus]
Don't want you part of my world
Just you be my back street girl

[Outro]
Just you be my backstreet girl

Genius Annotation

This track lyrically, is definitely among the most harsh of put-down and negativity to women among any Rolling Stones song, and therefore may drive a good share of listeners away from it.

However, the musicality of the track is very diverse, and hardly any other Rolling Stones song sounds like it. Accordion, Vibraphone, and Waltz tempo drive the song elegantly along, giving a very vintage feel to it.

Mick Jagger sites “http://www.timeisonourside.com/SOBackstreet.html” among older Stones songs he likes, and although it is also liked among deep fans, this song only appears on Flowers & Between the Buttons UK Version.
