How to Format Lyrics:

  • Type out all lyrics, even repeating song parts like the chorus
  • Lyrics should be broken down into individual lines
  • Use section headers above different song parts like [Verse], [Chorus], etc.
  • Use italics (<i>lyric</i>) and bold (<b>lyric</b>) to distinguish between different vocalists in the same song part
  • If you don’t understand a lyric, use [?]

“Pale Blue Eyes” is a song written by Lou Reed for The Velvet Underground’s 1969 album, The Velvet Underground.

The song was written for Reed’s first serious girlfriend and true love, Shelley Albin. Although Shelley wasn’t married and did not have blue eyes (details he changed to make the song work), he tried many times to get her back, and therefore what he “had but couldn’t keep” (“Lou Reed” by Anthony DeCurtis, page 49).
