Stars Lyrics

[Verse 1: Oliver Sim]
I can give it all on the first date
I don't have to exist outside this place
And dear know that I can change

[Chorus: Oliver Sim]
But if stars, shouldn't shine
By the very first time
Then dear it's fine, so fine by me

'Cos we can give it time
So much time
With me

[Verse 2: Romy Madley-Croft]
And I can draw the line on the first date
I'll let you cross it
Let you take every line I've got
When the time gets late

[Chorus: Romy Madley-Croft]
But if stars, shouldn't shine
By the very first time
Then dear it's fine, so fine by me
'Cos we can give it time
So much time
With me
[Bridge: Oliver Sim + Romy Madley-Croft + Both]
If you want me
Let me know
Where do you wanna go
No need for talking
I already know
If you want me
Why I go
If you want me

Let me know
Where do you wanna go
No need for talking
I already know
If you want me
Why go

[Verse 1: Oliver Sim]
I can give it all on the first date
I don't have to exist outside this place
And dear know that I can change

[Chorus: Oliver Sim]
But if stars, shouldn't shine
By the very first time
Then dear it's fine, so fine by me
'Cos we can give it time
So much time
With me
[Chorus: Both]
But if stars, shouldn't shine
By the very first time
Then dear it's fine, so fine by me
'Cos we can give it time
So much time
With me

About

Genius Annotation

“Stars” is about a new relationship that is more dependent on love and romantic chemistry than sexual chemistry. While sex is important to the narrator and their lover, it’s not important if they don’t want to do it on the first date, because they expect the relationship to last long enough for it to happen eventually.

The track is a stark contrast to “Basic Space”, which details two lovers who can’t get enough of each other sexually. It’s included on The xx’s self-titled debut.
