Pushit Lyrics

[Verse 2]
Rest your trigger on my finger
Bang my head upon the fault line
You better take care not to make me enter
'Cause if I do, we both may disappear

[Chorus]
But you're
Pushing and shoving me
Pushing and shoving me
Pushing and shoving me
Pushing and shoving me
You still love me, you still love me
But you didn't need to push it on me
You're pushing and shoving me
Pushing and shoving me

[Verse 3]
I'm slipping back into the gap again
I'm alive when you're touching me
Alive when you're shoving me down, yeah
But I'd trade it all
For just a little peace of mind

[Chorus]
Push it on me, push it on me
Push it on me, push it on me
You're pushing, and shoving, and scrambling
To keep my feet flat on the ground

About

Genius Annotation

“Pushit” is the 11th track on Tool’s 1996 sophomore effort Ænima, and it’s title is a combination of the words “push” and “shit.” One of their more lengthy and heavy tracks, it has been played mostly in Tool’s live shows pre-Lateralus, often interchanged with the version found on Salival.

Both this song and “Schism” seem to tackle the subject of a difficult relationship quite clearly. In this instance, only one part seems to find the relationship difficult, and they are self-diagnosing the problem while lacking the courage to tell the partner.

The self-diagnosis happens mostly during the first half of the song; as the song progresses it seems like this person is becoming more and more numb; on the final part of the song they have entirely given up and survival seems to be the only reason they have to go on.
