“Belvedere Cruising” is the first song ever written by “Weird Al” Yankovic. He recorded it at home in 1976 (at age 17) and sent the tape in to the Dr. Demento radio show. Dr. Demento played it, giving Al his first taste of musical success. Demento would later play a pivotal role in helping “Weird Al” gain a widespread audience.
“Belvedere” was an original song (not a parody!).
Here’s how “Weird Al” described it in his 2014 Comic-Con panel:
[That] was an original song about my… uh, the family car. It was a big black 1964 Plymouth Belvedere with red upholstery and push-button transmission. It was like – it was a bomb. It was amazing.
And, uh, Dr. Demento thought it was unique for a teenage boy with an accordion to be writing a song about his car. So he played it on the radio.
