Deeper Down Lyrics

[Verse 1]
By the end of the bout
He was punched out
Fists capsized, muscles shouting
Deeper down
He felt the insult of a kiss

[Verse 2]
Deeper still than we can go
Further out than triremes row
Drowning slow
His memories persist

[Verse 3]
Out beyond the telescopes prowl
Up above the towers touched up pile
He realized
This mystery is his

[Verse 4]
Underneath the ocean floor
The part of who we are, we don't explore
I adore the meaninglessness of the this
We can express

[Verse 5]
By the end of the bout
He was punched out
Fists capsized, muscles shouting
Deeper down
He felt the comfort of a kiss

Genius Answer

Jeff Tweedy told The Chicago Tribune:

Wilco (The Album) has a song called “Deeper Down” on it, which is another one that’s not a big favorite in terms of our live show or if you pay any attention to the commentary from some of our fans. But it shows how different the process is for me and how different and what is useful to me of my own work, because “Deeper Down” is endlessly satisfying to me because it was a little bit of a puzzle to put together. Every time I go back and re-learn it – I don’t play it very often – but when I do, I’m still really satisfied with it. I’m satisfied with the guitar parts and how it all fits together and the lyrical theme of it. I like that song and fuck everybody else.
